Now it is the rainy season, dengue is once again becoming rampant. Dengue mosquitos are active in tropical regions where the temperature is between 22 °C. to 35 °C.  40% of the world population live in areas with the risk of dengue transmission. Dengue is a viral infection that spread by Aedes Aegpti female mosquito when this bites to an infected person. Dengue can’t be spread directly from one person to another person. Dengue fever usually lasts for 5 – 14 days and sometime it may come back for 1 – 2 days.

  • Sudden high fever
  • A severe headache
  • Pain behind the eyes
  • Skin rash 3-4 days after the onset of fever

  • Dengue mosquitoes don’t fly far, they reach only 50-200 meters. So once you have dengue mosquitoes in your backyard they won’t be leaving until you get rid of their breeding sites.
  • The dengue mosquito’s favorite resting spots are dark, such as under beds, tables and other furniture, behind curtains or anywhere dark and shaded under houses.
  • Unlike most mosquitoes, the dengue mosquito prefers living near humans in urban, domesticated environment.

Best Treatment for Dengue Fever

First, you don’t panic. Just take care of yourself.

  • In a normal person, Ideal Platelet Count  1.5 Lakhs to 4.5 Lakhs per microlitre of blood. In Dengue Fever Platelet Count falls below 100,000 /ML of Blood. If the platelet count shows a declining trend and consults with your doctor before taking any medicine if you find any dengue fever symptoms. If the count is less than 20,000/ML you must go to the hospital.
  • Take lots of rest and limit physical activity.
  • Have plenty of fluids to maintain hydration.
  • Apply warm sponge bath.
  • Have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Take your medication on time, avoid analgesic and painkiller. Paracetamol may be taken to bring down severe fever.

How Can You Prevent Yourself From Getting Dengue Fever?

Dengue fever does not have a proper cure but can be managed. Just follow these instructions:

  1. Use mosquito repellent, but avoid ones with DEET as an ingredient as DEET is a carcinogen or no more than 30% DEET.
  2. Spray Anti-mosquito sprays in-house corners, dark spots and outdoors.
  3. Clear your surroundings by emptying and covering pots and containers that can store stagnant water.
  4. Avoid dark-colored clothing. Prevent mosquito entry by keeping doors closed and windows screened during the late afternoon before dark.
  5. Mosquitoes usually bite during early mornings and late afternoons.
  6. Take special precautions at these times. Use nets tent while sleeping.
  7. Make sure to always close the lid of your water containers
  8. Wear pants, long sleeves, shoes and socks during early mornings and late afternoons.
